The Gospel Driven Life

As I sat awake last night trying to sleep, angry with the idea of the Purpose Driven Life, I thought how can we have the church return to transforming the culture around it. The answer it seems to me would be to return to a Biblical Gospel Driven Life. The purpose and lifeblood of the church is delivering and spreading the Gospel. In order to do this, however, we must live the Gospel first. How, you might say. It starts with how we view life. Most of us take a view in which we think about ourselves first and ANYTHING else second. We must change our view. God must come first in all aspects of thinking. We have all heard this cliche, but a truer statement there could not be. The 1st question of both the larger and shorter Westminster Catechisms asks, "What is the chief and highest end of man"? The answer is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. So the question to ask yourself is whether or not you are glorifying God on a daily basis. Are you living a Gospel driven life? This is not about what God can or will do for you because you asked, even if performed Jabez style. It is about, is this edifying to the Lord. What are you doing to further the Kingdom? If you concern yourself with matters involving the furtherance of the Kingdom, through study, actions, and discipling. The other matters: money, love, good job, good kids and all of the other wonderful things every American Jabez deserves from God will fade in the blinding light of the Lord. We may always petition our King, but ask yourself, when Christ petitioned the Father, or Paul petitioned the Lord, were their requests similar to those of the "Purpose Driven Jabez"? Instead as Christ says "Not my will, but your will be done" If we follow this we will live a life with more "purpose" whether or not the world understands that is unimportant. We must focus on the goal of the Gospel, and through the Gospel Transform ourselves and the culture through the renewing of our minds.
